Applications Overview
Emergency Spill Response
BioSolve® eliminates fire and explosion hazard when applied to a fuel spill. Sprayed onto the spill in a diluted solution, BioSolve encapsulates hydrocarbon molecules on contact, thus enabling responders to extinguish Class A and Class B (hydrocarbon) fires. As hydrocarbon molecules become encapsulated, the LEL (Lower Explosion Limit) will immediately decline and, with proper agitation, will register “0.” Application of BioSolve also facilitates roadway cleanup, removing oil sheen that creates a driving hazard.
Vapor Suppression & Odor Control
BioSolve is used at worksites to reduce the presence of fugitive vapor emissions that pose a hazard to workers or create nuisance odors for neighbors. Applied as a spray over the remediation site or stockpile of contaminated material, BioSolve works by encapsulating hydrocarbon molecules, which results in dramatically lower vapor pressure. By reducing odors or potentially hazardous vapors to low or zero levels, cleanup work can continue safely without disruption to workers or neighbors. BioSolve can be applied on active sites in wet or windy conditions without need for specialized equipment.
Soil Remediation
BioSolve is used for both in-situ and ex-situ remediation projects. In-situ, BioSolve works to mobilize NAPL trapped in the soil and facilitate transmission through the aquifer for evacuation. Ex-situ, BioSolve can be used for soil and sand washing or for long-term bioremediation in a process known as “land farming.” In both cases, BioSolve mobilizes and solubilizes hydrocarbons, enabling extraction of up to 99% of the contaminant mass. Bioremediation of any residual contamination is also accelerated through enhanced bioavailability of hydrocarbons.
Tank Cleaning & Degassing
BioSolve is a proven tool used in the process of solubilizing tank bottoms and other types of hydrocarbon-based sludge. Pressure spray application of BioSolve solution, followed by agitation, allows for the rapid conversion of residual hydrocarbons in sludge and tank bottoms to an aqueous phase, while at the same time knocking down dangerous VOC vapors and reducing hydrogen sulfide release. BioSolve is also used as a surface cleaner so that vessel walls and associated equipment can be decontaminated in an environmentally sound manner.
Equipment Decontamination
BioSolve is used for cleaning and decontaminating equipment at remediation sites, in refineries, on drilling rigs, and at spill cleanup sites. Using standard pressure washing equipment with a properly diluted solution of BioSolve, most oil and tar build-up can be washed away on contact. For more severe contamination, a hot water spray system may be required.
Other Uses
BioSolve is also used in a range of related applications such as: grease trap cleaning, removing paraffins from oil wells, in sewer systems (without harm to digester bacteria) to mitigate an accidental release of oil or fuel, for shipboard pollution control, and more.
